Norwood Lateral to Be Renamed Thursday
A stretch of State Route 562 will now bear the name of one of the region’s late public servants. The Norwood Lateral, running between I-75 and I-71, was officially renamed the Brigid Kelly Norwood Lateral. The honor took place Thursday afternoon in memory of the late Brigid Kelly, a longtime state and county official who passed away last year at age 40.

The renaming follows the passage of Senate Bill 254, co-sponsored by Senators Catherine Ingram (D-Cincinnati) and Louis W. Blessing III (R-Colerain Township), and signed into law by Governor Mike DeWine in December. DeWine joined community members, lawmakers, and Kelly’s family at the dedication ceremony in Norwood.
Kelly, a Norwood native, began her political career on Norwood City Council before serving as a state representative and later as Hamilton County Auditor. She was widely praised for her bipartisan efforts and commitment to public service until her death in March 2024 from esophageal cancer.
“Brigid dedicated herself to bringing people together and making Ohio a better place for all,” Sen. Ingram said in a statement. “Much like the Norwood Lateral operates as a critical connecting piece for our Greater Cincinnati communities, it is only fitting that we pay tribute to a true public servant of Ohio.”
