Lena Horne, a musical legend passed away at the age of 92 late Sunday night in New York City at the New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. The icon was the first black performer to be signed to a long-term contract by a major Hollywood studio. She was an award winning actress and singer with a voice that was undeniable. Perhaps her most famous song, “Stormy Weather” is proof of the absolute talent this woman embodied.
Horne was also a staunch civil rights supporter and would refuse to perform at segregated venues.
We’re sure it’s only a matter of time until we here word from Alicia Keys who signed on to play Ms. Horne in a biopic about the star which will be produced by Oprah Winfrey.
