Lil Wayne’s farewell concert and farewell tour continues, as the rapper gets ready to head for a brief one year jail stay.  The farewell concert tour kicked off on December 17th, and hit a road block in Texas when Lil’ Wayne and some of his entourage were detained by the Texas Border Patrol after marijuana was found on the tour bus.

Luckily, Weezy didn’t have any drugs on his person and no charges were filed. Crisis averted, at least for now.  The rapper’s case has been referred to the sheriff’s office.

Lil Wayne’s legal woes won’t be over in February. In March Weezy will stand trial for felony drugs and weapons charges in Arizona.

Lil’ Wayne, aka Weezy, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, will appear before a judge for sentencing on February 9th after entering a guilty plea for a weapons charge stemming from a 2007 incident. If the trial in March doesn’t go very well, then it could be possible that Lil Wayne will be gone for a long, long time.

Despite his criminal record, the rapper has had phenomenal success this year.  His mixtape, “No Ceilings” was a viral Internet success.  His rock inspired album “Rebirth” was accidentally leaked when Amazon.com sent out copies of the record to those who pre-ordered.  The official release date has been postponed several times, and it’s said that the album will be released on February 1st.

Lil Wayne remains one of Memphis’s favorite rappers. He is a hit every time he comes to the area. He is a native of New Orleans, and there are many in the Memphis community that moved here after Hurricane Katrina devastated the region.
