The airline industry is known for being a stressful job, but no one could imagine what a Jet Blue flight attendant would do on Monday. According to reports, Steven Slater argued with a passenger during a flight that had just arrived at the JFK airport from Pittsburgh when he lost it. He grabbed a beer, opened the emergency exit chute and jumped out of the plane. Slater, who is 39, was later arrested at his home and faces charges of reckless endangerment, trespassing and criminal mischief.

A law enforcement official commented on the incident to the New York Times. “When they hit that emergency chute, it drops down quickly within seconds. If someone was on the ground and it came down without warning, someone could be injured or killed.”

JetBlue said that the safety of passengers and crew were never in jeopardy by the incident. The FAA is investigating.
