Hip hop is well represented among the nominees for the 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees. Eric B & Rakim and the Beastie Boys grabbed nods for induction for the 2012 class. Rakim is considered by many as one of the top MCs ever to touch a microphone, while as a duo, Eric B. & Rakim are best known for their ’80’s hits “Eric B Is President,” “I Aint No Joke,” “Juice (Know the Ledge)” and “Microphone Fiend.” The Beastie Boys made the transition to hip hop in 1984 followed by their debut album Licensed to Ill in 1986, which received international critical acclaim and commercial success thus leading them to selling 22 million albums in the United States and 40 million albums worldwide up until this point. The nominees were for the 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were chosen by the 40 members of the hall’s nominating committee, consisting of critics and musicologists. Five acts will be inducted and announced in November.
