Twitter has done it again. Once again, Twitter has caused a scandal, with outrageous celebrity tweets. And again, it was 50 Cent who has been embroiled in controversy, this time about Japan’s devastating earthquake and tsunami, which is estimated to have a potential death toll of at least 10,000.
Trying to make light of the unfolding disaster, he tweeted; “look this is very serious people I had to evacuate all my hoess [sic] from LA, Hawaii and Japan. I had to do it. Lol”
But he didn’t stop there. On Friday, as the US West coast was on a tsunami warning, the rapper joked that the “wave will hit 8am them crazy white boys gonna try to go surfing.” as well as, “its all good Till b**ches see there christian louboutins floating down da street shit gone get crazy.”
After being retweeted hundreds of times, and facing very public backlash, Fiddy went to Twitter again to defend himself, writing, “nah this is nuts but what can anyone do about it. Let’s pray for anyone who has lost someone”, and “some of my tweets are ignorant I do it for shock value. Hate it or love it. I’m cool either way 50cent.”
We’re all for humor and shock value, but come on now, joking about a disaster of this scale is just plain stupidity.
