Four people are dead after a car crashed into the Mill Creek Saturday.

The crash happened around 6PM near the dead end of Queen City Ave., just north of the Western Hills Viaduct.

According to police, a 2019 Infiniti Q50 was traveling east on Queen City Ave. when it struck a guardrail. The vehicle then went into the creek and landed upside down.

When Cincinnati firefighters arrived, they found a 27-year-old woman sitting on top of the submerged vehicle. She told crews four people were trapped inside. She also said the vehicle had been underwater for about an hour.

All four were removed from the vehicle and brought to shore. Crews attempted to revive them, but it was unsuccessful.

The four victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not been released officially, though family members have began to memorialize them on social media.

The surviving woman was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. She is expected to have minor injuries.

Her mother, Tracey Jones, told local news that her daughter suffered bruising and having a difficult time walking. She also described her daughter as deeply “over the top” traumatized by the crash.

Jones’ nephew was also among those killed. Their causes and manners of death are also pending the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office.

A balloon release was held near the site honoring the victims on Sunday.

What Caused the Crash?

Investigators are looking at speed and possible impairment as contributing factors. Police also said the occupants were not wearing seatbelts.

The Cincinnati Fire Department said the creek was too deep for firefighters to safely reach the vehicle on foot. The steep bank also made access difficult. Firefighters deployed an inflatable boat to reach the vehicle. Two rescuers entered the water and located the four occupants.

Around 30 firefighters responded to the scene. The vehicle was eventually removed from the creek around 10PM.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the Cincinnati Police Traffic Unit.
