About Bruce Bruce

Born and raised in Atlanta’s high crime and poverty-stricken neighborhood “The Bluff’s”, Bruce Church grew up as the only child of a divorced mother. Growing up, as you could imagine, Bruce was often called a class clown. He looked up to his uncle Paul, who he considers to be the “funniest man in the world”. He mentions pulling inspiration from early Black comedians like Flip Wilson, Richard Pryor, Bill Cosby, and Redd Foxx.

Before trying comedy full-time, Bruce worked as a barbecue chef and a salesperson for Frito-Lay, where he was asked to perform comedy at corporate events. This drove him to perform at Atlanta’s Comedy Act Theater fueling his move to Los Angeles in 1989.

The comedian prides himself on using minimal profanity to get laughs. His “big break” hit in 1993 with his first appearance on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam”, followed by a “Showtime at the Apollo” debut in 1994.

Bruce Bruce is most notable for his large stature and bright suits. Bruce stands at roughly 6’0 and was almost 500lbs at one point. He proudly mentions his weight loss journey when asked.
