R&B music celebrates Gerald Levert, the man we all came to know, love and cherish on his birthday today, July 13th. Still one of R&B music’s most memorable faces and classic voices, it’s hard to believe that our good friend and soulful superstar Gerald Levert left us just four years ago in the fall of 2006. How many songs can you remember by Gerald Levert that really touched your life or were the soundtrack to your weddings, family events or weekends out at the club? Think about that for a moment, will you?
Too many of our African American stars are gone. The legends are disappearing, but their legacies continue on. We’d like to be among those remembered for their great contributions to the music industry abroad, but also for the impact the music has had on generations before us and generations to come. Keep the music alive listeners and viewers. We must carry on the message and celebrate it as often as possible.
