In international news this morning, there’s an interesting story that caught our attention as Peruvian government officials reportedly are preparing to make formal charges against Joran van der Sloot as soon as possible – even sometime today.

What did he do? Let’s all take a moment to review. Joran van der Sloot confessed yesterday to the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez after she reportedly went through his personal computer and electronic equipment. He could actually face being held at one of three maximum security prisons according to the authorities in Lima, Peru this morning.

The fishy part of this breaking international news story is that in the back of each of our minds we can’t help but think of this as a hoax or a way for van der Sloot to avoid maximum penalty for the murder. If you recall, he also confessed to the murder of Natalee Holloway in 2008 then turned around and said it was a lie.

The only difference now is that with the mysterious death and confession of murder in Ramirez’s case, there’s video footage and additional evidence that van der Sloot can’t run from. So do you think he’s playing with the government in hopes of getting off a little bit quicker and easier? Do you think he really did it?
