Congratulations to our girl Monica! R&B fans of the Atlanta-bred singer/songwriter are still celebrating the growing success of her sixth studio offering “Still Standing,” which was just released March 19th (RCA/J Records).

Why? As you all know, the album debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling over 184,000 units in its first week thanks to a strong support by the media and fans abroad.

But today, it has been announced that the Grammy-winning singer’s latest album has been certified gold by the RIAA for total sales of over 500,000 copies. Go Monica!

The album’s lead single “Everything to Me” also currently sits atop of the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Chart for an impressive fifth consecutive week. This is big news for the star who endured a number of setbacks in the production and completion of the album.

Her two-year journey to create a solid project with a return to the straight up R&B elements she’s become known for was documented on the hit BET reality series “Monica: Still Standing,” yet another number one heavy hitter for the singer.

Yielding an often emotional climax and a unique perspective of the singer’s focus on getting her life and career back on track, the series showed all aspects of Monica’s life after she experienced personal dilemmas, multiple business endeavors that never seemed to pan out the way she would’ve hoped, and even the death of a former boyfriend who committed suicide with the singer present.

But now Monica’s back on top of the world. Her increased spins at radio and growing sales in record stores across the world proves that people still want to hear good music. Regardless of how we’re getting it, real music must and will prevail.

So congratulations to Monica for a triumphant return to her first love – music. Thank you for a beautiful album, a beautiful gift and most of all for never giving up. Cincinnati, aren’t we all so proud of Monica?
