Noted actress Viola Davis has quickly been catapulted into the forefront of everyone’s minds this summer with her starring role in the hit yet controversial film adaptation of the fiction novel “The Help” by author Sophia Nelson. With lots of talk about an Academy Award nomination for the role and the impact the movie and the book have on society decades after the issues of race and poverty examined within, there’s a lot we don’t know about Davis and her sudden rise to fame.

Gayle King recently sat down with the actress to discuss her past, how it relates to the role she landed in “The Help” and more on the hopeful reactions to the film itself. Listen and watch as the two share an intimate conversation on growing up poor and achieving massive success in the blinking of an eye.

Have you seen the movie for yourself? Or maybe you decided to read the book first? What are your thoughts on the conversations and dialogue surrounding the project? Share your perspective with us below on the message board using your Twitter or Facebook profile to log in and leave us a comment.
