Jennifer Hudson and rapper Paul Wall aren’t the only entertainers that are lobbying for a more healthier life style through weight loss. Though she was unable to attend the Grammy Awards last Sunday, after her tribute the world was able to see (through video) a more slim and healthier Aretha Franklin. After having minor surgery in December 2010 for a confidential condition, the 68-year-old legendary singer told the Associated Press that she is not only removing junk food from her diet, but that she has also given up soul food.

Aretha states that there has been more trips to Whole Foods and less eating of her favorites soul foods: pigs feet, ham hocks, and chitterlings. Her goal is to eventually get down to a size 16, and she is taking her new diet very seriously before she returns to the stage.

On Changing Her Diet

“They’re off my diet. They just really don’t fit with Whole Foods[…]I had it for enough years that I don’t miss it. You can’t continue to eat things that are not good for you.”

On Maintaining Her Diet While Performing

When you come off (a high-energy concert), a carrot or some celery just isn’t going to work. I’ve gotta do a fresh fruit thing … and come up with some tasty and satisfying recipes that are going to work for me after concerts.”

On Rumors About Her Being Gravely Ill

“You can’t stop people from saying whatever it is they’re going to say; you have no control over that.”

On Her New Album

“It’s definitely going to take the boomers back … but it’s also contemporary with respect to other writers and production.”

Though she had to cancel shows last year due to her mystery condition, she’s schedule to resume performing in May 2011. Her anticipated album, Aretha: A Woman Falling Out of Love, is also set to be released this year, of which R. Kelly is one of the songwriters.
