The latest issue of Essence magazine has everyone talking this week about how fabulous some of our favorite female artists are looking on the page inside. The magazine’s first-ever “Hair Anniversary Issue” highlights the hottest hair choices from superstars we know and love like R&B’s Monica, who takes the stunning cover with a new cropped cut and blonde streaks.

During the cover shoot, Monica sat down to discuss her looks from years past, present and future in an intimate behind the scenes interview. Check out the video below to find out what she had to say.

Monica also joins other female entertainment leaders such as Jill Scott, Janet Jackson, Goapele and other lovely ladies who sport a variety of unique hairdos for the African American woman of the moment. The magazine’s special edition issue further examines beauty by braids, natural styles, cuts, coloring and curls and everything in between. The new issue of Essence also features a discussion on the connection between black women, their hair and how we are morphing society’s definition of beauty.
