A few days ago, I was browsing through my friends’ Match.com account and ended up stumbling upon the pages of women I attended high school and college with. These women, who I’ve known for years and had never had trouble hooking up and finding a boyfriend in college, seemed to have issues doing so after we turned our tassels from one side to the other.
To me, it was a shock.
Today, these mujeres (women) are all in their late 20’s, single and successful. When I read their account headlines, I felt bad for them. I really did. Some of them sounded downright sad, almost begging for someone to notice them and how great they are.
When my friend joined Match.com, a lot of us thought it was him admitting he had no game, that he couldn’t pull a woman outside of the ‘net anymore and we would laugh at him. But we then spent time browsing through the site and saw the girls and thought: “Damn, there are some beautiful women on this site.”
Us: How can we contact them?
Friend: You have to pay a fee.
When we saw the fees, we immediately said “No”: $40.00 for one month? $80 for three months? I’ll take my chances meeting someone at work, at a networking event, or bar.
So, in saying all of this, I wanted to ask you (our readers) a few questions if you don’t mind.
1. Would you join a dating website? If so, why? If not, why not?
2. Have your girlfriends tried to get you to join one?
3. If you are a member of a dating site, tell us about some positive/negative experiences.
4. What do you feel about men that join them? Would you be less attracted to one?
5. Any specific sites that you think are better to find men from your own race/ethnicity?
While I did make fun of my friend, I do acknowledge that finding a good woman isn’t as easy as many of you may think. I’m sure it isn’t as hard as you women have finding a good man, but it isn’t a walk in the park for us either.
So, I guess none of you should be surprised if you ever see me write about how I joined Match.com. It may not be now, but it could possibly happen in the future. But it will only happen if I’m exhausted of the dating scene. I can say I’m not far from reaching that point, but I’m 100 percent sure I’m also not ready to leave my dating life to a 15-inch screen, a keyboard, and a mouse.
I’m a bit too young for that…
