Rumor has it that the Marley family has recently lost a major lawsuit. What were they in court for? They were after their opportunity to seek ownership of Bob Marley’s most coveted and most famous tracks.

Reportedly, the music executives sitting around the board room table at Universal Music have been declared the rightful owners of copyrights to five albums – a business decision only recently declared this past weekend on Friday, September 10th. The musical projects in question were all created, written, recorded and performed between 1973 and 1977 for Island Records.

UMG (Universal Music Group) previously withheld all royalties attached to the aforementioned projects entirely from the Marley family. Now isn’t that just as janky as can be?

Even in the man’s death, legacy and musical contributions, his family can’t even be taken care of. Is this something we see far too often or are people just handing it over as it being the nature of the beast we call the music industry?
