State Lawmakers Push for Pledge of Allegiance Bill
State Lawmakers Push for Pledge of Allegiance Bill What Do You Think?
Hey, Ohioans! Have you heard about this bill happening at the Statehouse, that requires time for the pledge of allegiance? I need your thoughts! According to WDTN, Lawmakers are pushing Ohio House Bill 117, “which would ask every school district to set up a daily moment for students to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.” Imagine that starting each school day with a nod to unity and citizenship! The bill’s clear: no tweaking the Pledge’s words, just a consistent time and way to say it. But here’s the kicker if you or your kid don’t want to join in, that’s fine.

The bill says loud and clear, “No one’s forced to participate,” protecting everyone’s rights.
I’m intrigued by how this could spark more than just a routine. The bill nudges teachers to weave lessons about the American flag, the Pledge, and what it means to be a citizen into our classrooms. Picture this: kids diving into what those stars and stripes really stand for, and to keep us all in the loop, districts would post their policies where we can see them, maybe even online.
State Reps Tracy Richardson and Sean Brennan are leading the charge, backed by local reps like Diane Mullins, Levi Dean, Jennifer Gross, Thomas Hall, and Ty D Matthews. Right now, the bill’s hanging out in the Ohio House Education Committee, waiting for its next move.

So, what do you think? Should our schools embrace this? Could it inspire our kids or is it too much? This doesn’t really make a difference to me, I grew up in school saying the pledge of allegiance daily.
It actually made me question some of the events that were occurring in this country historically and I noticed the hypocrisy from the words of the pledge compared to historical events. Another question I have is, shouldn’t politicians be focusing on other more important things other than children reciting the pledge of allegiance every morning? Drop your ideas below I’m dying to hear what you’d tell the lawmakers! Let’s get this conversation rolling!
