Budding actress Gabourey Sidibe has had quite a career launch in the last year. She’s still pinching herself to see if it’s all just a dream. I mean, just think about it. Baby girl was nominated for an Oscar after starring in the critically acclaimed novel turned film “Precious,” a role that catapulted her into Hollywood’s biggest venues and some of the most prestigious awards ceremonies.

Who knew Gabourey Sidibe, a self-proclaimed “middle-of-the-lane, very normal” gal, would ultimately ditch her plans to be a receptionist to become one of black America’s biggest and brightest stars?

Well, today, that unexpected turn toward stardom has created more opportunities than ever before for the 27-year-old actress who is reportedly gearing up for more of life in the spotlight with her co-starring role in Showtime’s “The Big C.” The comedy/drama stars Laura Linney as a school teacher with a terminal illness and Gabourey Sidibe plays an irrate student in the classroom. The series debuts later this month.
