2pac’s “Dear Mama” will be amongst the 25 recordings to be inducted into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry.

This notable distinction means that by the National Recording Preservation Board’s standards “Dear Mama” has been deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” and will join a prestigious group of only 300 songs that have been inducted into National Recording Registry in history.

According to Reuters, the NRPB called the song a “moving and eloquent homage to both the murdered rapper’s own mother and all mothers struggling to maintain a family in the face of addiction, poverty and societal indifference.”

‘Pac, who’s been featured in the Guinness Book of World Records for being one of the best-selling rap artists in the world with over 75 million albums sold, would’ve turned 39 this past June 16, had he been still living. As previously reported, the legendary West Coast MC was recently honored in Atlanta at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts with a concert hosting by Mike Epps that featured performances by Rick Ross, Bun B, Pill, Too $hort, Roscoe Dash and more.
