CINCINNATI — A new staircase that will climb from Gilbert Avenue to the Cincinnati Art Museum is designed to help the museum better engage with surrounding neighborhoods.

Construction on the “Art Climb” is scheduled to start in June and should be finished later this year, according to a news release from the art museum. It will connect pedestrians at the corner of Gilbert and Eden Park Drive up 450 feet to the museum.

The staircase will include multiple flights of steps and landings climbing the hill, as well as lighting, outdoor artwork and a pavilion at the top with a view over Cincinnati. A rendering of the project also shows a new shelter for the bus stop near the bottom of the stairs.

“Like the traditional steps leading to some of the most famous museums around the world, this grand staircase will become a signature gateway from the museum to the nearby community,” the museum said in a news release.
