We’re just over a month away from rushing to the theaters by the masses to catch the friendship, the fashion, the dirt, drama and yes, the sex, in America’s coveted HBO series-turned-mega movie ‘Sex & The City 2.’

There’ll be much more of the aforementioned themes that keep bringing us back for more, but the sequel to last year’s major box office hit will feature a soundtrack that looks and actually sounds like…us.

With its urban pop/R&B direction, the film starring actress and entrepreneur Sarah Jessica Parker is intended to showcase more than the popular dance tunes we’ve come to love and instead will give audiences a little something different to nod their head to in theaters.

Joining previously confirmed singers Leona Lewis and the first film’s co-star Jennifer Hudson is R&B’s own maestro Alicia Keys.

Keys is slated to have her cover of Blondie’s “Rapture” placed into the lineup for the film.

The soundtrack will also include Keys’ remixed version of “Empire State of Mind” (Part II), which is another tune that fits the mold as it represents the ‘Sex & the City’ cityscape and backdrop.

Other artists contributing to the film’s soundtrack will be our number one soul sister Erykah Badu. Hip Hop/funk/soul songwriter Cee-Lo (of the alternative soul duo Gnarls Barkley and also formerly of Atlanta’s Goodie Mob) and European pop/trip hop singer Dido will also be featured on the soundtrack.

Should be an interesting set of songs. We’re eager to check this one out. What do you think of the lineup so far? It certainly gives us a glimpse into the sequel’s edgier and soulful vibe.

The ‘Sex & The City 2’ soundtrack is scheduled to hit stores on May 25th, just two days prior to the film’s debut in theaters on May 27th.

It should quickly become the movie to see during Memorial Day Weekend festivities, but now you’ll also have a set of new tunes to jam to while you’re watching.

Tell us what you think of the ‘Sex & The City’ decision to showcase more urban musical offerings this time around. Are you anticipating the release of both the film and its soundtrack? We want to hear from you.
