Former Scandal star Columbus Short may need to call Olivia Pope for the legal battle he’s about to face. An L.A. judge ruled Tuesday, there was sufficient evidence from Short’s bar fight to proceed with a trial on felony battery charges. Short is being accused of taking part in a fight in March at a Los Angeles bar, where he allegedly knocked out a man and fractured his eye socket. If the actor is convicted he can face up to four years in prison. The Wrap is reporting Short claims he was acting in self-defense after the victim, Fenton Hyche III was gearing up to thrown down on Short. Hyche’s father jumped into the melee and held his son arms to prevent him from fighting when Short hauled off and punched him in the face.

According to Hyche’s statement, the brawl took place after he and Short got into an argument inside a bar, but he (Hyche) decided to leave with his cousin. Short and Hyche apparently were squabbling over money, where Short accuses Hyche of tossing money at Short’s estranged wife actress Tanee McCall. An arraignment for the trial is slated for Jan. 6. Sounds like Short can use some help from super spy agency B-613.

Short has faced several run-ins with the law this year. In April, he was charged with domestic abuse involving his soon-to-be ex-wife. McCall filed a restraining order against Short after she claims he threatened her life during an fight at their home. Short was then charged with misdemeanor spousal battery where a judge ruled he must stay away from McCall.  Soon after Short’s continuous legal battles, he was let go from Scandal.

Earlier this month, Short admitted his cocaine addiction led to being fired from the popular ABC show, where he was a series regular for three years.
