VH1 is gearing up to delve into the world of Black Greek life with the series debut of Sorority Sisters. The new reality show will give viewers a rare look at Atlanta black sororities when it follows nine women who are part of four different sororities try to continue on, maintain and uphold the practices and observances of their chapters and sororities.
MUST READ: Will Mona Scott-Young’s ‘Sorority Sisters’ Ever Get The Green Light?
Earlier this year, we told you about VH1’s plans to bring the show to television, with Love & Hip Hop czar Mona Scott-Young helming the project. Once the sizzle reel was released, backlash was promptly met along with a petition to squash the show from making it to air. The video contained scenes viewers felt displayed such stereotypical portrayals of what historical sororities are, it was yanked from the internet and the show quietly disappeared.
Now, VH1 has announced the freshman series DAYS before the show is set to air, without Scott-Young curiously not being attached to it.
According to VH1’s press release:
“Sorority Sisters” follows the lives of women from four different sororities. Since these ‘sorors’ are pledges for life, they are expected to continue their community work long after graduation. From long-awaited reunions, to managing the men in their lives, for these line sisters, it’s homecoming all across the ATL. These ladies have a lot at stake – their aspirations, reputations, livelihoods, friendships, and families – and the legacies of their sororities. “Sorority Sisters” premieres December 15 at 9PM on VH1.
“Sorority Sisters” is executive produced by Robert Horowitz for Juma Entertainment, and Toby Barraud, Stefan Springman, Mala Chapple and Jeff Grogan serve as executive producers for Eastern TV. Susan Levison, Nina L. Diaz, Vivian Gomez, Ken Martinez, and Daniel Blau Rogge are executive producers for VH1.
Sorority Sisters airs Dec. 15 at 9 PM EST on VH1
