Police brutality has been rampant these past few months, and it doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. Back in September, Hammond police pulled over a car for a traffic stop which ended in a car window getting broken and a black man being tased right in front of his children.
The family is now suing the department for “intentionally with malice, wilfulness, and reckless indifference to the rights and safety of plaintiffs.” Watch the video below:
In a debate on CNN, lawyer and TV correspondent Paul Callan said that what the police were doing was correct, and that the lawsuit probably doesn’t have a leg to stand on. Sunny Hostin, also a lawyer and correspondent, had to give the real on the situation and what it means to be a person of color among the rush of police brutality today.
“As a woman of color, I don’t know what to do because this could happen to me. This could happen to my child. This could happen to my father. This could happen to my husband. What do we do about the inherent racism that we’re seeing over and over and over again in these United States during these traffic stops?”
How do you think Sunny handled the segment?
