Sometimes it’s not how you approach a woman but where you approach her that can send the object of your affection running in the opposite direction. A-game or not, there are just some places we women won’t hear you. Martin Lawrence’s character in Death At A Funeral clearly didn’t get the memo, but we’re here to keep you from playing yourself.

1. Court

“After I get through with my arraignment, maybe we could… ” Please. Stop. I’ve heard enough. I would be laughing — except this scenario happened to me. I’m really not interested in learning why you were arrested during a coffee date. I’ll pass.

2. STD Clinic

I’m all for handling your business and getting tested for STDs but while you’re there fellas, please refrain from spitting game at females. Flirting with a chick as you’re waiting to get that “mysterious itch” checked out is unacceptable. NewsFlash: There’s no telling why she’s there either.

3. Gym

Although I can understand how a woman working out may be a turn on, hitting on her while she’s on the treadmill is not. When I’m dripping with sweat and looking a hot mess, the last thing I want is a guy trying to talk to me. How about hollering after I’ve taken a shower?

4. Funeral

Life does not always imitate art. I don’t care how well it worked in “Wedding Crashers” but you are not the funeral-crashing Will Ferrell! Hitting on a grieving woman is not going to get you anywhere playboy. Leave those come-ons for the movies.

5. Hospital

You never know why someone is at the hospital. I could be waiting for a doctor’s update about my dying grandmother or my sister’s surgery– neither of which are joyful occasions. It’s safer to avoid this location all together. However, if you are bold, I just ask that you avoid women in the ICU wing.

6. Bus or Subway

Nobody likes being backed into a corner– and unfortunately when guys approach girls on public transportation that’s exactly how we feel. Do me a favor, wait until I get off at the same stop. That way, if the conversation goes south I can escape, instead of having to listen to you talk for an entire bus or train ride.

7. Office

Work is a great place to strike up conversations but hitting on your co-worker — or people in your building for that matter — isn’t always the smartest thing to do. I came to work to do just that, work. I shouldn’t have to add turning you down to my list of daily tasks.
