Just over a decade ago, actor Malik Yoba brought the house down as star Detective J.C. Williams, on the America police drama New York Undercover. Today, in an interview on the Tom Joyner Morning Show, Yoba announced the revamp and return of the hit series which aired from 1994 to 1998 on the Fox television network. Yes, you heard that right. We can now anticipate the return of one of America’s first and most beloved police dramas to showcase the experiences of two undercover detectives of color in New York City’s 4th Precinct who were assigned to investigate various crimes and gang-related cases.

Wondering what took so long? According to Malik Yoba, who’s currently a co-star in Tyler Perry’s new hit film Why Did I Get Married Too? alongside actresses Janet Jackson, Jill Scott and Tasha Smith, after the show ended unbeknownst to him a writer by the name of Courtney Parker was inspired to begin writing her own updated version. Parker, now a writer on the Emmy Award-winning NBC television show Law & Order, later sent Yoba her ideas and recreations. From there, the ball began rolling and now viewers can even share their feedback and input regarding the show’s return.
