To enter into Alisa Riley’s Head Start classroom at Winton Hills Academy in Winton Terrace, is like entering into another world – one of lights and brightness, surrounded by colorful expressions of positive self-images, computers and loads of engaging and appealing learning centers. But the shining star that makes the difference, creates the caring atmosphere and makes school exciting is the teacher, Ms. Riley.
She connects with each little one, assessing their individual stages of social, emotional, and cognitive development, and develops a plan to give each child a real head start. Success is a daily occurrence for these children as she sets high expectations, but she also has a deep understanding and respect for them, their prior experiences and their environment. She teaches discipline and respect for themselves and others with a positive system of rewards and encouragement.
And through it all, she shows love and compassion as she makes learning so much fun. She often spends part of her vacation at school, preparing her classroom for the coming season or holiday. Students often return to the school to visit their favorite teacher, thanking her for laying the foundation for their future success. Alisa Riley, Hometown Champion.
