It’s no surprise that with a 4 day weekend we may have doubled up on dates to the movies. lol. Here’s a recap of what box office hits did this past holiday weekend!! (Via:Ballerstatus) It was a huge weekend at the box office, as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Disney’s Frozen served up record-breaking numbers over the Thanksgiving holiday. After a huge opening last week, The Hunger Games sequel earned $75 million in its second weekend, while the 3D animated musical Frozen earned another $67 million — both besting the previous Thanksgiving record holder, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, which earned $57.5 million over a three-day period in 2001. The films also topped records for the highest domestic box office grosses for the three-day and five-day holiday weekend. Furthermore, Frozen became the biggest Thanksgiving opening ever and the largest opening for Walt Disney Animation Studios. The two-week domestic total for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hits nearly $297 million, while the Disney animation is creeping on $94 million. Also on the box office, Thor: Dark World came in at #3 with $11.1 million, and The Best Man Holiday lands at #4 with $8.4 million. Other new releases were: Jason Statham and James Franco’s thriller Homefront, which opened in the #5 slot with $7 million; and Fox Searchlight’s Black Nativity, debuting at #8 with $3.8 million.
