Tom Ford isn’t the first designer to get his name dropped in hip-hop lyrics recently, and isn’t even the only brand referenced on Magna Carta Holy Grail, but he joined the ranks of Pablo Picasso in having Jay-Z name a full track after him on the rapper’s latest album. So what does it mean to the designer, whose wares Jay-Z has rockedbefore?
“I am completely flattered,”
Ford told Billboard.
“I mean, come on, who would not want a Jay-Z song named after them?”
True, and if there are any haters out there who would scoff at the honor, Ford could simply state,
“Numbers don’t lie, check the scoreboard.”
If Jay-Z wanted to thank Ford for his kind words, don’t expect him to make it a public one. The track’s lyric
“F*ck hashtags and retweets”
leads us to believe that Hova is more into hand-written notes and phone calls than hitting someone up on social media.
