Just when you thought the United States no longer had beef with Al-Queda, we find out an American soldier was conspiring with them on terrorist attacks. U.S. Army veteran Eric Harroun was charged in a federal Virginia court for conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction outside of the United States.
According to an affidavit, Harroun participated in military combat in Syria. He sided with rebel forces and used rocket-propelled grenades when he fought against the Syrian government. The former soldier bragged about causing a Syrian helicopter to fall from the sky on Facebook. Prosecutors claim Eric Harroun worked al-Nusrah Front which is commonly known as Al-Queda.
Harroun’s parents haven’t commented on their son’s recent arrest, but his mother spoke to a publication in the past. She stated, “His heart was in the right place. He’s there helping the good civilians in Syria. He’s never come across anyone who says they’re with Al-Qaeda.”
Eric Harroun willingly met with FBI at the US Consulate in Turkey before he was flown back to Washington D.C. where he was appointed a public defender. A detention hearing is set for early next week.
