With her smartphone in her hand, 9-year-old actress Quvenzhané Wallis stole the hearts of viewers as she accepted her Critic’s Choice Award for Best Young Actor/Actress last night. She told the crowd,
‘First I would like to thank God for all my blessings. I would also like to thank the film critic’s for this award.’ Thanks to Mr. Benh Zeitlin and the Court 13 family for thinking I could make a good Hushpuppy. Lastly, to my family, friends and fans—good night!’,
Quvenzhané, a native of Houma, LA, stars in Beasts of the Southern Wild. It’s a film that explores how a young girl uses her fantasies to cope with living in a community separated from the Louisiana mainland after Hurricane Katrina.
She was chosen by director Benh Zeitlin from a pool of 4,000 hopefuls (she auditioned at the age of 5) and has gone on to make history as the youngest person in history to be nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award. READ MORE!
