No more Open Mics at Tanzen House! After 10 years in Covington, the owner has decided to shut the doors to her club. Angel Minton is currently searching for a new location after, the License Board voted to put limits on her club’s liquor license.
Licensed board claim their decision was a result of a fight that took place, resulting in a police officer being wounded . However, Minton stated that she did not remember seeing any injures, nor was there anyone arrested. She also relied that she didn’t receive a citation. If this is correct, it could be understood why Minton is questioning their decision.
Minton suggests that the board is being racist; she says they’re a stereotype against “hip hop” bars. Read more details on this story HERE.
I agree with her, I think that everyone assumes that a club full of African Americans equates violence. It saddens me that this is a stereotype that comes to mind when people see a room full of black people. The Tanzen House was not your typical bar. This was a place where local artists came to turn their dreams into reality. I hope she is able to find another location soon.
