Morehouse College‘s Maroon Tigers’ football team suffered a 31-14 stampede by the Albany State University Golden Rams on October 18. Still, nothing stopped the good times inside and outside B.T. Harvey Stadium during Morehouse’s 2014 homecoming game, held at the Atlanta-based undergraduate school’s historic West End campus.

The men’s historically Black college shares its Homecoming week festivities with neighboring women’s college Spelman College. Fittingly, the annual has been rebranded as “Spelhouse,” a hook that helped this year’s game draw more than 11,000 game attendees (as well as an estimated three times that amount in tailgaters).

Among the luminaries spotted at the festivities were Edwin Moses, Olympic gold medalist (Morehouse, ’78); James Shelton, deputy secretary, U.S.Department of Education, (Morehouse, ’89); former Atlanta mayor and Spelman professor Shirley Franklin; and Rep. Sanford Bishop (Morehouse, ’68).
