Amidst the gridiron clash between the San Francisco 49ers and the (champions) Kansas City Chiefs in the 2024 Super Bowl, eyes were laser-focused on one person: Usher Raymond IV. The eight-time Grammy winner took America’s stage February 11th at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, delivering a historical 15-minute performance for millions of viewers worldwide. Usher’s performance marks the longest performance in Super Bowl history.
“I turned the world to The A”
Usher’s halftime spectacle was a star-studded affair. Alicia Keys joined him for a fun rendition of their duet, “My Boo,” while H.E.R. showcased her musical prowess on the electric guitar— accompanied by backup singers and dancers on roller skates! Lil Jon, Ludacris, and will.i.am also made surprise appearances, performing dance hits like “O.M.G.” and “Yeah!”.
In a nod to his roots, Usher promised to transform “Vegas to Atlanta”. As a tribute to the city that cultivated his stardom, Usher infused his set with the essence of Atlanta’s vibrant music scene.
Furthermore, Usher had the esteemed HBCU band, Jackson State University’s “Sonic Boom of the South” by his side. This performance not only celebrated Usher’s journey from The South to global superstardom but also honored the rich musical traditions of historically Black colleges and universities.
Usher shared in a November 2023 interview with TODAY.com, he viewed the halftime show as an opportunity to captivate tens of thousands of live fans and over 100 million viewers worldwide.
Despite his lengthy, yet nearly perfect performance, some of Usher’s iconic hits didn’t make the cut.
