Letoya Luckett continues to prove herself as a rising actress. Post Destiny’s Child in the late 90’s, she has garnered her own success with smash albums, features in hit plays and a few significant acting roles.
LeToya Luckett has been sharpening her acting chops for a while now and it’s starting to pay off. She just landed a role in the inspirational drama From the Rough, opposite Taraji P. Henson and Michael Clark Duncan. Luckett tells Essence that the film is a true story about Coach Starks, the first – not just African-American – but female to coach a men’s golf team. Before Coach Starks became the golf coach, she was the swim coach for [Texas State University]. Luckett will play one of her students who falls in love with actor Tom Felton’s character, which isn’t necessarily something that Coach Starks wants. A release date for From the Rough has yet to be announced. Letoya Luckett had her first starring role in the film Preacher’s Kid and also has a reoccurring role in the HBO show “Treme.”
