Despite the release of Owen Wilson’s new comedy, “Hall Pass,” it was the gnomes that ruled the weekend box office, as Oscar weekend swept Hollywood.

In its third weekend, Walt Disney’s 3D animated film, “Gnomeo & Juliet,” took the weekend box office with just $14.2 million, bring its domestic total to just over $75 million.

“Gnomeo” upset the new film from Wilson and Nic Cage. The Farrelly brothers’ R-rated comedy, “Hall Pass”, in which a wife give Owen a week off from marriage, earned just $13.4 million to start, making it the #2 movie in its opening weekend.

Down to #3, after topping the box office last weekend, was Liam Neeson’s action flick, “Unknown”, which earned $12.4 million in its second weekend.

The Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston romantic comedy, “Just Go With It,” held steady at #4 in its third weekend with $11.1 million; while “I Am Number Four” dropped to #5 with just over $11 million.

And the final new wide release was Nicolas Cage’s 3-D action film, “Drive Angry”, taking in just $5.1 million.

That’s a wrap for this weekend. Next weekend, look out for the release of Matt Damon’s new sci-fi thriller “The Adjustment Bureau,” the Vanessa Hudgens fantasy “Beastly,” the animated “Rango,” and the Anna Faris comedy “Take Me Home Tonight.”
