No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. –Nelson Mandela
Long Walk to Freedom
Former President of South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela is 93 today. He was born July 18, 1918. Before his presidency the political activist was just one man who decided to make a change by helping to allow his people to stand united rather than divided. In his country they called this system apartheid which Mandela was against. All the while knowing taking on such matters against their National Party government was against the law. The influential world speaker was later imprisoned for 27 years in 1964. However because of him racial segregation ended one year later. Even after being released from prison he continues to operate as a human rights activist. With 67 years of service under his belt he asks that each of us dedicate 67minutes of our lives to serving in our community. Will you take the challenge?
