You’re not gonna believe it, “Avatar” has topped the weekend box office … again. Yes, in its seventh weekend, the James Cameron sci-fi blockbuster toppled new releases such as Mel Gibson’s “Edge of Darkness” and the romantic comedy “When In Rome” by over $10 million.

“Avatar” raked in another $30 million over the weekend, taking its domestic take to $594.5 million. That puts it around $6 million shy of “Titanic’s” domestic take of $600.8 million.

It did, however, take the lead as the highest grossing movie ever, earlier this week. And, could pass “Titanic” domestically this upcoming week.

Mel Gibson’s revenge-thriller, “Edge of Darkness,” debuted at #2 this weekend with $17.1 million. It makes Gibson’s return to the box office. The last film he starred in was 2002’s “Signs”. “Darkness” has received mostly good reviews though, and the studio’s call its performance a “solid opening.”

Also in its first weekend of release was “When in Rome,” opening at #3 with $12.1 million. The film stars Kristen Bell.

At #4 was “The Tooth Fairy” with $10 million, and “The Book of Eli” closed out the top 5 with $8.7 million.

That wraps things up this weekend. Next weekend, look out for the romance film “Dear John,” and the John Travolta action flick “From Paris With Love.”
