HAPPY BIRTHDAY JILL SCOTT
Seems like she’s been gone from us for so long, doesn’t it? When we last heard from Jill Scott she was fresh into motherhood and successfully raising her first child – a baby boy, whom we are absolutely convinced he’s just as sweet and adorable as his mother is. Before that, shocking rumors hit the gossip blogs and the airwaves with sparse details of her breakup with then fiance-turned-baby daddy (and accomplished musician) “Lil Jon” Roberts, her drummer. Then just last summer, she canceled a round of highly anticipated tour dates due to a sudden family illness many of us still have questions about, but through it all, Jill Scott promised not to keep us waiting for new music.
With a few features here and there, her voice has remained one that’s familiar, soulful and not too far out of the reach of die-hard Jilly from Philly fans who’ve been there since day one. So what better way to return to the music scene after six gold and multi-platinum full length albums (wow, can you believe how much time has flown by us?) under her belt and a catalog of stellar award-worthy TV/film acting roles? We think the best way is to blaze back on the scene and steal the spotlight with an unexpected collaboration is the best way – but wait, it gets even better when it’s Jill’s 39th birthday added to the mix!
That’s right, Jill Scott has returned. Finally, and this time she asked her homegirl (no pun intended) Eve to help her bring the Philly soul/Hip Hop hybrid to fruition with a funky spin on their joint record “Shame.” Listen below and tell us what you think of the three-and-a-half minute jam as both Jill and Eve spring back into action.
