Beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder. Though, famed photographer Derek Blanks definitely has a talent for making it look good. He has worked with nearly all of Black Hollywood. Seriously! The brother has a gift, a craft, a unique vision that has the industry buzzing over his work. It ruly is art. He takes you beyond a photo and give you an experience. Derek’s claim to fame is his Alter Ego shoots.
Derek was born and raised in Mississippi, his mother realized his talent and enrolled Derek in special art schools. His talent did not gounnoticed as he grew older. By the time he was ready for college, Derek selected to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art, where he studied fine arts and commercial illustration. He graduated Magna Cum Laude, receiving his bachelors in Fine Arts.
He works with high profiled celebrities to everyday homemakers. Derek’s studios are stationed in Atlanta. Perfect reason to visit the ATL! Lol. The most recent shoot features my favorite destiny’s child Kelly Rowland getting her gorgeous on as “Rosie the Riveter”. Derek did his signature shoot for Ms. Kelly as she portrayed a strong woman in charge vs. the Damsel in distress pin up.
