It was a slow weekend at the movie box office, allowing for the western “True Grit” to take the top slot over last weekend’s top movie“Little Fockers” and the new Nicolas Cage flick “Season of the Witch.”

“True Grit” earned $15 million over the weekend to take #1 and become the first Western to cross the $100 million mark since the 1990s, said reports.

The film stars starring Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon.

It bumped Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller’s comedy, “Little Fockers,” from #1 to #2 this weekend, earning $13.8 million, and raising its total to $124 million.

At #3 was Nicolas Cage’s supernatural thriller “Season of the Witch”, starting with $10.7 million. It stars Cage as a knight in the Middle Ages escorting a suspected witch to her trial.

Down one spot to #4 was “Tron Legacy” with $9.8 million; and closing out the top 5 was “Black Swan,” rising from the #9 spot to #5 with $8.3 million.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s country-music drama “Country Strong” premiered at #6 with $7.3 million, climbing up from #43. It casts Paltrow as a boozy singer trying to get her act straight after rehab.
