Los Angeles Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic, the Slovenian player who local fans call “The Machine,” is reportedly engaged to girlfriend and Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova.

Vujacic let the cat out the bag to the Associated Press during their pre-season game on Thursday (October 21), where he expressed his excitement.

“We are engaged and are both really happy,” the NBA player said. “It’s good and now we can focus on other things.”

Sharapova confirmed the news, via an email to the AP, as well.

According to Vujacic, he proposed on the one-year anniversary of their first meeting at a friend’s barbecue … he calls it “old school.”

“I had to do it like a gentlemen,” he said.

The couple’s wedding has yet to be set.

Vujacic was back on the court on Thursday against Golden State, just a week after suffering a concussion when teammate Lamar Odom accidentally elbowed him in the face during practice.

He’s played six seasons with the Lakers. Last year, heaveraged 2.8 points and 1.2 rebounds in 67 games.

Sharapova won her first major title at Wimbledon in 2004 at just 17 years old. Since then, she’s won the 2006 U.S. Open and 2008 Australian Open and also reached #1 in the WTA rankings.

However, she’s missed the last two seasons while recovering from a shoulder surgery and an elbow injury.
