Cincinnati Preservation Seeks Community Input on Black History Project
Cincinnati Preservation’s Sites of Black History initiative, launched in 2022, celebrates Greater Cincinnati’s African American heritage. Consequently, the organization is creating the Black and African American Historic Context Study. This study aims to document significant sites and stories. However, only 2% of National Register entries reflect Black history, highlighting the project’s importance.

Encouraging Community Participation
Cincinnati Preservation invites community input to identify Black history sites within the I-275 loop. For instance, residents can submit suggestions via an interactive map. Alternatively, they can email info@cincinnatipreservation.org with ideas. Moreover, sites like the Manse Hotel and Union Baptist Cemetery are already recognized.
Creating a Lasting Impact
The African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund and Haile Foundation fund this yearlong study. As a result, it will support new National Register nominations. Additionally, it will aid local historic designations and preservation planning. Furthermore, Cincinnati Preservation’s app, Cincinnati Sites and Stories, offers virtual tours. Ultimately, community input will ensure Black contributions are preserved for future generations.
