Sylvester Stallone’s “The Expendables” has been the #1 flick at the box office for two weekends, but that streak ended this weekend when the new fright flick “The Last Exorcism” dethroned the action flick to take the #1 slot.

The Lionsgate horror film just barely edged out Sony’s heist thriller “Takers,” pulling in $21.3 million during his debut weekend.

“Takers” was right behind it, in at #2, with $21 million. It stars Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen, Matt Dillion, Idris Elba, Jay Hernandez and Paul Walker.

“The Expendables” slipped to third place with $9.5 million, raising its total to $82 million; while “Eat Pray Love” slipped one spot to #4 with $7 million.

And, closing out the top 5 this weekend was “The Other Guys,” holding strong at that position with $6.6 million.

In a narrow release, the 3D special edition of “Avatar” pulled in $4 million, placing it at #12, and lifting its domestic total to $753.8 million. The new version of the 20th Century Fox blockbuster adds nine minutes of footage. It played in just 812 theaters.

That wraps things up this weekend. Next weekend, look out for the release of George Clooney’s drama thriller “The American,” the Drew Barrymore and Justin Long romantic comedy “Going The Distance,” and Danny Trejo’s action parody “Machete.”
