A fire tore through a duplex in East Price Hill on Sunday afternoon, leaving two people dead and ten others hospitalized, including seven children.

Cincinnati fire officials responded to the blaze around 1PM at a multi-family home on Summit Avenue. The victims range in age from just three months old to 48 years old. The Hamilton County Coroner identified the deceased as 21-year-old Nyla Lashay Harrow and two-year-old Jayceon McGee.

Emergency crews worked for more than two hours to control the flames, with approximately 80 firefighters on the scene. Streets surrounding Summit Avenue were shut down as first responders battled the fire. While the exterior was eventually extinguished, crews remained on-site into the night to ensure the flames were fully out.

Some residents reportedly had to jump from the second floor to escape, and all 12 residents of the duplex are now displaced. Fire officials say the structure is considered a total loss.

While the fire is believed to have been accidental, investigators have not yet released further details.

Just hours after the deadly blaze on Summit Ave., another fire broke out at a nearby home on Elberon Ave., leaving four people injured. Authorities say an explosion may have triggered the second fire, but investigations are ongoing.
