Despite the overwhelming popularity of its predecessors (Guitar and Band Hero), the hip-hop version DJ Hero isn’t selling like most expected, even with major promotion from the genre’s biggest stars, Eminem and Jay-Z.

According to reports, the title sold just 122,300 copies across all platforms — 62,000 for the Xbox 360, 39,000 for the PS3, 19,000 for the Wii, and 3,300 for the PS2.

The numbers are waaaaaay below what analysts expected, due to the amount of dollars spent on marketing. If you were keeping tabs, big-name producers and DJs were hired on to help hype DJ Hero, and even a concert was thrown at E3 where Jay-Z and Eminem headlined, and artists such as Travis Barker and others also performed.

Maybe it’s a slow-moving start? Maybe it’ll pick up? We’ll see how it does over the holiday shopping season.

The game is a little pricey, but includes a turntable controller. It retails for $119.99, but there’s also the $200 renegade edition, which comes with a combination turntable peripheral case and stand.

Both are on sale though. Cop it at Amazon.com for $99, or the Renegade Edition for $150.
