Details of a recent lawsuit filed by the family of a man who died after being tased by local police are unfolding in this morning’s headlines.

Kelly Brinson, Sr.’s family members have filed a lawsuit against University Hospital claiming Brinson was handcuffed and tased multiple times while University of Cincinnati police officers attempted to restrain him. Brinson, who originally admitted himself to the hospital after suffering from a reported psychotic episode, died several days after the incident.

Excessive force used against Brinson violates his constitutional rights according to the additional claims made by his family. The University and hospital staff both claim Brinson’s reactions were indeed violent which caused them to try to restrain him with or without handcuffs and multiple tasings. As interesting as the story reads, there’s so much more happening that we must take a look at here. What do you think is really going on with this story? Does it seem odd that Brinson’s apparent condition wasn’t addressed properly? Do you think the University of Cincinnati police officers were out of line? What does this say about the medical procedures provided by the University Hospital in situations like this? Visit WCPO.com today to read more on the lawsuit and the responses from both the University Hospital staff members and the police.
