Our bra is something we wear everyday for sometimes more than 12 hours a day; however, it seems to be the article of clothing that gets neglected. Sure, we discuss sexy lingerie around Valentine’s Day and when we want to spice up life in the bedroom; however, the bra is something that isn’t just for the pleasure of our partners. Bras have the duty of securing our breasts and holding them up and the decision to buy one shouldn’t be as flippant or quick as we think.
According to a 1998 study, 70% of women are wearing the wrong bra size. We are walking around with ill fitting bras and don’t even know it! We are also shopping for bras without the knowledge we need to make the best decisions. Don’t worry – I’m here to help! Get Hooked.

When trying on and buying a bra, you should fit yourself for the bra on the first row of hooks, not the second or third. As the bra gets older, it potentially stretches out. You can then “tighten” the bra by moving to additional hooks and allowing more wear out of your bra.

Gaps.

When trying on a bra, there should not be a gap between the strap and the cup. Your bra straps should lay flat across your breast. This can be an indication that your bra straps are too loose or that the bra is too big.
Your boobs should not be spilling out at the sides, this means that your bra is too small and you might need to go up a cup size.

Get Fitted. Multiple Times.

Everyone should go get fitted for a bra. I prefer to go to Macy’s because they offer more sizes for women versus a brand like Victoria’s Secret. Getting fitted by a bra specialist will help you to know what your band size and cup size is. Know that cup size can vary with brand. I suggest getting fitted by two different specialists to ensure your correct bra size.

Try It On For Size.

After going into a store and getting fitted, try on different brands of bras. This is helpful for when you want to take advantage of online sales. You’ll already know what size you are and won’t have to order multiple sizes for fit.

If you gain or lose weight, you’ll definitely want to get fitted again. Your boobs or band size can go up or down and just like you need to buy new jeans, you most likely will need a new bra too. Oh, and if you get pregnant, yup, you definitely need to go bra shopping.
