If you think Common‘s done making headlines after hitting the big screen earlier this month, think again. He’s been everywhere alongside his co-star Queen Latifah for the last 30 days doing promo for the hit romantic comedy Just Wright. Today, Common (born Lonnie Rashied Lynn, Jr.) is coming up all over the place as recent details of his forthcoming album Believer hits the blogosphere.

The lyricist is planning for a fall release of his next record that’s supposedly going to fall right into the pocket of what people are desperately calling out for in the world of hip hop music. Billed as the biggest project of the rapper’s career, the Believer album is set to push the envelope further than the artist has ever gone before.

“I think I’m at a place where I wanna do some boom bap, raw sounding hip-hop that’s inspiring. I think that’s what people really want to hear,” Common tells reporters at XXL magazine this week. Common also plans to break the rules and cut out the trendy types of things other rappers seem to be concentrating on. He says he’s more concerned with making music people want to buy instead of feeding them something they don’t really have a taste for in today’s consumer market.

“When someone goes to buy an artist’s record, you want to hit them with some good collaborations, but you don’t want to hear an entire album with everybody else,” says Common. I agree and while I’ve always adored unique mixes of musical energies on a few album tracks, I can see why Common wants to go light on linking up with the industry’s other “it” girls and guys and drop an album that’s packed with the uncommon threads that make his music stand out above the rest.

To find out what else Common had to say about the Believer project, which is still in its early stages of creation and production as we speak, check out the full reports at Sohh.com. Are you anticipating Common’s return to the mic? Speaking of collaborations, do you think Common is moving in the right direction by having less and less of them on his new record?
