An Evangelical pastor visited a mall in Amarillo, Texas over the weekend to educate kids on the true meaning of Christmas — or to completely ruin it.

Pastor David Grisham entered the Westgate Mall with a video camera, walked up to line of kids waiting to meet with Santa Claus, and told them all that “there is no such thing as Santa Claus,” that “Christmas is about Jesus Christ” and that “the man you’re going to see today is just a man in a suit, dressed up like Santa.”

He also had a message to parents saying, “You all need to stop lying to your children and telling them that Santa Claus is real when in fact he’s not.” Most people in the line tried to ignore him, but eventually some parents had heard enough and approached him, telling him to stop. Others complained about him on the mall’s Facebook page and asked that the pastor be banned.

Westgate released a statement saying, “We want everyone at our shopping center to have an enjoyable experience. All of the shoppers are expected to follow our code of conduct and will be asked to leave our premises if they don’t follow these rules.” (Huffington Post)

Fasho Discussion:

  • Even if he were right about Santa, a line for the mall Santa is not the proper venue. He should save it for his church.
  • What he did is one of the worst things anyone could do to young kids at Christmas time.
  • What would you have done, as a parent, if someone showed up to tell your kids that Santa isn’t real?
  • What would you say to your kids if they just heard someone tell them that Santa isn’t real?
  • He has no more proof of what he believes — isn’t that what faith is all about?
